GRANITE
Granite is metamorphic or igneous, made up of silica, mica, feldspar and quartz, generally with a packed, granular surface. Color varies from light to dark, presented in flecks, veins or solid patterns.
Granite has long been the top choice for countertops due to its durability. Granite is difficult to break, crack or scratch; it is heat and stain-resistant. Because it doesn’t fade or discolor over time, granite requires very little maintenance. We do, however, recommend using cleaning products formulated for natural stone. Granite is available in several finish options, including polished, leathered, and flamed. Coppertree Countertops will assist you in selecting the perfect finish along with an edge profile. Coordinating materials, finishes, and edge profiles is where you can really let your personality shine!
MARBLE
Marble is metamorphic or sedimentary in origin with a smooth surface typically striated with veins of minerals. Some is quartz-based, while others are composed of serpentine, a greenish mineral. Commercial marble is typically available in variations of black and white.
Marble is more porous than granite, thus more easily stained. We recommend using a cutting board and never allowing spills to sit.
Marble can offer the same longevity as granite, but with a bit more TLC. At Coppertree, we feel it’s worth the extra effort.
If you are searching for sheer luxury and unbridled elegance, marble is beyond compare.
QUARTZITE
Quartzite is a metamorphic rock composed almost entirely of quartz. It forms when a quartz-rich sandstone is altered by the heat, pressure and chemical activity of metamorphism.
The quartz content of quartzite gives it a hardness of about 7 on the Mohs Scale as compared to granite's 6-8, and marble's 3-5. Often confused with granite and marble, quartzite is stronger and more durable, stands up better to abrasion, and is more resistant to stains.
Given its incredible allure, its no wonder that quartzite is in such demand. Many prefer its neutral tones that resemble marble. Also, they appreciate the fact that, unlike marble, it will not etch.
